Bonne année 2015!! Happy New Year 2015!!
What a return to school! We spent more time playing than anything else. The children had a hard time returning to the class routine and I spent more time reminding them to whisper and keep their indoor voices. I sang “on chuchote” at least 3 times each day and thank goodness, it always worked.
Here is the lyric sheet with English translation.
Another cute finger game is “le ouistiti”, it is a real treat and the its French name is a lot cuter than just plain “finger monkey”. In fact “ouistiti” is the French way of getting kids to say “cheese” for the camera:-)
Here is a video with song sheet along with the English translation.
“Que dit la météo?” (what is the weather?) is another song which I created by translating a song by Dr Jean. Her songs are lots of fun and very catchy and the French version is a hit with my students. I use flashcards from La Maternelle de Moustache and will soon transition to a weather wheel also from Moustache.
I have attached my lyric sheet with translation and two videos of the song (one with flashcards and one with the class) as well as the Maternelle de Moustache flashcards that go with the song.

“Cinq petits canetons” (five little ducklings) is one of the first songs I made up for my class. I taught it at the same time as we learnt “La semaine des canards” (the week of the ducks) and the kids loved it. I sing it to the tune of B-I-N-G-O.
Find attached my lyric sheet with English translations and a copy of the puppets I use on the blackboard to move each “caneton” (duckling) as I sing to the children. I have my helper draw a big hill on the board and then move each caneton as we all sing.

What a great way to learn “les jours de la semaine” (the days of the week). I downloaded the song sheet and flash cards from La maternelle de Moustache, one of the best online ressources for French Maternelle teachers.
Find attached the song and translated song sheet and flashcards from Maternelle de Moustache for classroom display. Do not feel intimidated by the lyrics. The children are riveted by the pictures and be sure to create actions as you sing. The children have loved this from the first day and more than a month in we still sing it everyday and now have a student lead the song each day. It is a good tool for the second period, don’t rush into it at the beginning of the school year.
